The creation of the garden was made possible through help and donations from; Manchester Cathedral, John Laing Plc, Crash, CTAC, Central Manchester Primary Care Team, National Lottery – Awards for All. We are grateful to Den Leech (design), Paul Wigley (carpentry) and Suzi Feltham (gardening) who ran groups to enable people who use the centre to help create the garden.
Creating the garden
People from the centre attended planning workshops where they discussed what they wanted from the garden and how it should look.
The garden railings were sanded and painted, which was a big, messy job.
The raised beds, benches and garden cupboard were constructed from wood. Two carpenters from Laings helped with this task. People from the centre were able to use and improve their carpentry skills.
We went to various garden centres to choose plants. We built a pond and fountain and set up an irrigation system. We planted herbs, to use in the cookery classes, next to the pond.
You can find out more about how we set up the garden by downloading this evaluation report.
