How was it?

These are some of the comments made by people who created the garden.

I have enjoyed creating the garden over the past 12 weeks. It has been enjoyable doing something that seemed to be an impossible task.

The Wet Garden is a place of peace for people who have a drink problem. Otherwise they might have problems from the public and the police. I have experenced a lot of harassment myself and so have others, but this wasn't the help I needed.

It is a very nice garden and a lot of homeless people who use the Centre have put a lot of work into it. I think everyone enjoyed being part of the project. It must feel very rewarding for everyone to accomplish this task and to see such a good result. I feel very comfortable and secure sitting in the garden. I know I will be safe drinking there because it is supervised and I won't be harassed.

I'm Don and I helped in the Booth Centre garden, setting out some plant boxes, doing some carpentry and arranging plants. I enjoyed this and it gave me new experiences as I learnt about how a garden is set out - not any idea myself. It helped me to seee how a garden is created. Sue gave us advice on where to put each plant according to the environment it needed. I chose a plant to climb up the trellis and planted the big cordaline to act as a focal point in the corner of the garden. I hope they all survive and I can watch them grow.

The garden has been made by people working as part of a big family. When I first heard about the plans, I thought it was a bad idea because people would abuse it, but so far I've been proved worng. I really enjoyed working on the project. We had a laugh and a joke as well as working hard. It made me feel good to use my skills in building the panters. I liked going to the garden centers and choosing my plant.

It was a very nice feeling to see the finished result when the Booth Centre grden was finally complete. Everybody was invovlved from desighn to construction and they all did a good job. I hope now that the garden will go from strength to strength. All we must do now is think of a name for the garden. It would have been nice to put some more creeping plants on the walls but, anyway, it is still an oasis in the heart of the Cathedral, so we can't complain. The plants were chosed by us, with guidance from Susie, a professional gardener, and we planted them up. A lot of hard work was put into the project by everybody concerned. So all I can say is Well done, everybody!

When Amanda said we were going to make a garden, I thought it was a good idea but I couldn't imagine how it could be done. Of course, I enjoyed working on it and I think it is grand. Everyone put a lot of work into it so now we should keep it and look after it. It's a good place for everyone. I often come to look at it at the weekend when the Centre is closed and I'm really proud of it.
