Here are some recipes from our microwave coookery course.
CHILLI CON CARNE
4oz minced beef 1 small onion 3 mushrooms 1/4 pepper 1/2 tin red kidney beans 1/2 tin chopped tomatoes 1 dessertspoon margarine garlic (optional) 1 tablespoon cream (optional)
What to do and cook
Put mince on plate or flat dish and cook for 2 minutes,stir and cook for a further minute
Chop onion,mushroom,and pepper(garlic).
Put marg in dish and heat for 45 seconds.
Add 0nion,mushroom and pepper(garlic)to marg and cook for 2 minutes or until soft.
Add mince to onion mixture and stir in chilli powder.
Cook for 1 minute.
Stir in beans and tomato and heat thoroughly for 4 minutes,stirring well.
Cover and leave to stand for 5 minutes.
Stir in cream.
10 Serve with rice,jacket potato or bread.
BAKED APPLES
You need(for 1 person) 1 medium cooking apple, 1 dessertspoon brown sugar, 1 dessertspoon butter, 1 dessertspoon mincemeat or dried mixed fruit, 2 dessertspoons water.
METHOD:
1 Wash and core the apple. 2 Make a slit all round the apple. 3 Mix fruit/mincemeat with sugar and butter. 4 Put apple in dish and fill the cntre of the apple with the fruit mixture.. 5 Pour water around apple and cook for about 3 minutes.
Serve with syrup. custard or cream.
BAKED JAM PUDDING
BAKED JAM PUDDING
TWO PORTIONS
What you need: 11/2 tablespoons of jam 6 tablesoons of self raising flour 3 tablespoons of matgarine 3 tablespoons of caster sugar Grated peel of half a lemon 1 EGG 1.1/2tablespoons milk
Method
Grease a large bowl with a little butter, spread jam over bottom of the bowl.
In another bowl sift flour and rub in margarine finely. Add sugar and lemon peel.
3.Add egg and milk to make a soft batter; DO NOT BEAT THE BATTER. 4.When batter is smooth,pour over jam. 5 Cook uncovered for 3.1/2 minutes or until well raised, turning twice,at this stage the top should look slightly wet.
Leave to rest for 4 minutes before serving.
