Springwatch 114

In 2004 the Centre won a Manchester City Coucil award for our Contribution to the Environment.

In 2006 we took part in the BBC Springwatch campaign to promote wildlife and bio-diversity in cities and in 2007 were awarded a Bio-Diversity Hot Spot awarad.

We started in January 2002 working with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, BTCV, and the Irk Valley Project in Blackley Forest. We spent 8 Fridays thinning the forest, building and putting up bird boxes, planting wild flower seeds and building a fence and stile. We returned in May to build another stile and to clear and plant a wild flower meadow at the entrance to the forest.

In March 2002 we spent a day clearing a pond of reeds at Wardle reservoir. It was wet but great fun.
