Walking

On Fridays we often go for walks in the countryside. The aim is to get people out of the city, get some exercise, be away from alcohol and drugs and to have fun.

In 2001 we did a number of long distance and sponsored walks. In February 5 people walked all-night for 29 miles and raised over £300 for Christie Hospital. In the spring we completed the 68 mile South Pennine Ring canal walk. In the summer our walking was interrupted by foot and mouth – we diverted to the west coast and walked from the Wirral to Blackpool. In the autumn we walked, in stages, from Manchester to Sheffield over the Pennines.

In 2002 we've been exploring West Yorkshire on a series of walks, including a long walk which we did as a sponsored walk. You can read about how people have found them. We also went on some Local History Walks with the digital camera. You can see where we went and look at a few of the photographs.

In the last few years we have done eveything from climbing Snowden and doing the 3 Peaks in Yorkshire to walking nearly every canal foot path in the Greater Manchester area.

We also have a Wednesday afternoon Strollers group for people over 50, who want to go for a short walk in local parks.
